 Advocacy

  CHAPTER #157

PLANO, TX

The goal of the Advocacy Committee of Mothers & More is to find worthwhile causes to donate our time and energy toward in our community.

Volunteer Opportunities and Charitable Donations

Our group is currently collecting gently used or new children's books.  We will deliver the books to Half Price Books for their Half Pint Drive.  The books will be distributed at Parkland Medical Center for their young patients.

Our group plans to visit Senior citizens at Plano Community Homes in March.  The residents are senior citizens over the age of 62 and living on a fixed income.   Mothers and their children will have an opportunity to participate in this outreach activity.  We will visit, work on crafts and maybe play a game.  More details will be announced soon.

If you have an idea for the Advocacy Committee, or you would like to get involved with this group, contact the Advocacy Coordinator.

Volunteer Opportunities with Children's Advocacy Center will be announced Following our February Meeting with the Volunteer Coordinator, Stephanie Iverson.

"Family-Friendly" Businesses and Employers

Each year, Mothers & More awards a local business and a local employer their Family-Friendly Business Award. This is our group's way of recognizing an employer or a business that goes out of their way to make their facilities or atmosphere welcoming to families. Mothers & More members can nominate any type of business for one of these awards. If you are interested in nominating a business, contact the Advocacy Coordinator. Let us know why you think that business should be recognized. Award winners receive a plaque, as well as published articles praising their business for being family-friendly.

The Children's Advocacy Center of Collin County needs volunteers to put blue bags out for donations.  They take donations of childrens clothing and other items. The Children's Advocacy Center of Collin County is one of the leading centers in the nation because of the way they streamline interviewing the abused children. The group opened a new center (in the old Food Lion building) at Park and Jupiter last year. Contact them at 972-509-1412 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting              972-509-1412      end_of_the_skype_highlighting for more information or to volunteer to help.

Our Children's Store at North Park Mall needs volunteers to work 3-4 hour shifts at their store.  This is an opportunity to "get dressed up" and work in a store, run the cash register, help customers pick out gifts, etc. Proceeds from all purchases at this store go to local children's organizations. Click here to learn more about this store.
